A notice will be sent out nearer the time with the Zoom link.

Happy summer cycling!

Anne Leete

Sadly, we are letting members know of the death of Anne Leete last week after 18 months of treatment for cancer. Anne has been a long-time member of the group and a participant on a great many rides, and group holidays. She will be missed.

Wanted: Climate Safe Streets Champion Volunteer for Barnet

The LCC is looking for at least one volunteer from each London borough to be a Climate Safe Streets Champion. They will lead the way in their own local authority to help LCC reach its CSS goals of a Carbon Zero transport Network by 2030 – with local elections coming up in May 2022, they will apply pressure on candidates for commitments to deal with the Climate Emergency we’re in by making walking and cycling a more attractive option for everyday journeys.

For details and how to apply see here:  https://www.lcc.org.uk/staff-vacancies/ or contact Suami.Rocha@lcc.org.uk

ePetition Keep the A1000 bus and cycle lane

If you haven’t already signed the Barnet Council ePetition to keep in place the A1000 cycle lane then please consider doing so. See here:

https://barnet.moderngov.co.uk/mgEPetitionDisplay.aspx?Id=127

Although it is not perfect, it would be worse without it. Do spread the word to your cycling friends – it would be great to get more names on it than the one to remove the lane.

Petition closes on 30 June – so take action now!

Monthly Meeting: Thursday 24 June 8pm

We will start with a brief round-up of what is happening locally and what is happening on the Campaign front.

Then, this month our ‘Twittersphere’ guru, Charlotte French, will give us a demo of our newly reactivated Twitter site and talk us through how to make the most of social media to promote cycling. It’s a lot of fun! We will also have an update on the LCC’s Cycle Buddy scheme and how you can get involved in the Barnet Group.

Do have a look at: https://twitter.com/barnetlcc

This meeting is open to members of the group and our local supporters only. If you attended any of the previous meetings there is no need to do anything and you will be sent the Zoom invite a few days before the meeting. If you wish to be added to the list, please send an email to alison.ewington@ntlworld.com.

Camden Clean Air Cycle: Sunday 30 May

Camden Clean Air, is a not-for-profit organisation working to improve air quality in Camden borough through a number of initiatives, including promoting sustainable travel, electrification, greening of public spaces, waste and other traffic reduction measures.

The Camden Clean Air Initiative iis inviting participation in its first cycling event, The Camden Clean Air Cycle. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they will not be encouraging a mass meet-up of riders. Instead, all participants will be able to complete the cycle ride at any point on Sunday 30 May between 10:00 and 16:00. This means that everybody will be able to join The Camden Clean Air Cycle safely and at their own pace.

Monthly Meeting: Thursday 27 May 8pm

We will start with a brief round-up of what is happening locally and what is happening on the Campaign front.

Then, this month we have a visit from Toby Hopkins from the LCC office who is involved in the ‘Cycle Buddies’ scheme. This scheme connects people who want tips and guidance on urban cycling with more experienced cyclists. Some new, or returning, riders might need help with planning a safe route to work – or might need advice on improving their cycling technique. The LCC would like to have this scheme set up in Barnet so we need people to get involved. Come along and see what is involved and find out how you can help.

This meeting is open to members of the group and our local supporters only. If you attended any of the previous meetings there is no need to do anything and you will be sent the Zoom invite a few days before the meeting. If you wish to be added to the list, please send an email to alison.ewington@ntlworld.com.
