Ride marshal and leader training
| The LCC have started booking and running ride marshal sessions in preparation for London Cycling Festival (formerly called Ciclovia). They want to put on as many as possible in as many different boroughs leading up to the Festival so if your group hasn’t organised one, please get in touch with a date and, if possible, a venue, and Mike McSherry will set you up. Coming up they have Wandsworth on 10 May, Enfield on 18 May and Women of Colour (date TBC) in Farringdon. The session on 18 May in Enfield would be of most interest to members in Barnet who are able to help with the Enfield event on 25 May. Email mike.mcsherry@lcc.org.uk to organise. All sessions will appear on this URL as soon as they are confirmed: https://lcc.org.uk/organizer/lcc-training/ |
ENGAGE BARNET SURVEY: Health and Wellbeing Strategy consultation
Barnet Council are consulting on their Draft Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy – on the Engage Barnet website – link below. You can download the draft document from the website – but despite the aims of health and wellbeing there does not seem to be any mention of ‘active travel’ – walking and cycling. This seems like a missed opportunity.
Please have complete the survey and where relevant say how valuable encouraging cycling would be.
The consultation closes on 8 April.

Sundays 18 & 25 May: Ciclovia/Freecycle Event – SAVE THE DATES
This year, to replace the central London Freecycle event, borough groups are being encouraged to organise local events. Barnet plans to link in with an event in Enfield.
Volunteers are needed to help participate and marshal the route in Enfield. The plan is for marshals to meet and do a recce of the route on Sunday 18th May at 2pm. So if you can help, please keep this date free and also the date of the event itself – 25 May. More details to follow.

REMINDER: 5 April: LCC Community Skills Summit at Westminster University in Marylebone
Anyone interested in cycling, active travel and campaigning to improve their areas are invited by the LCC to join them for a day exploring how to make our area a safer place for anyone to cycle, walk and wheel so that it’s greener, cleaner and healthier.
Please register here: https://lcc.org.uk/news/lcc-community-skills-summit-2025/
SAVE THE DATE: East Finchley Festival 22 June
This ever popular Community Festival will be held in Cherry Tree Woods, East Finchley N2 on Sunday 22nd June 12pm-6pm.
Barnet Cycling Campaign will have a stall – and it will need volunteers! So, please put the date in your diary and be ready to step forward to help for an hour or two when the call comes.
Rides: Cyclone Cycling
We have been asked to draw attention to this cycling group. They travel out on the Metropolitan Line or the Thameslink Line so it would be of interest to our members on the western side of the borough.Â
NB THIS GROUP IS NOT PART OF THE LONDON CYCLING CAMPAIGN or BARNET CYCLISTS
Originating in Brent, the group now ranges across North West London – they organise London evening rides – the Chilterns, Watford and beyond. They do 35-45 mile circular daytime road rides at weekends, with an average speed of 14 mph (a good bit faster on the flat).Â
See attached flyer for more info. To find out more, do drop Matt a line at: CycloneCycling@outlook.comÂ
