London Cycling Festival event at Enfield

Some of us are going to the London Cycling Festival event at Enfield on Sunday 25th May. This is one of many events being run by LCC groups as there is no Freewheel or Ride London this year. For full details see  https://lcc.org.uk/events/enfield-london-cycling-festival/

There is a feeder ride from Palmers Green, which meets outside the Fox pub on Fox Lane at 8.30am. I realise that this is much earlier than the 10.00 or 10.30 start times we’re used to.

If you want to ride there with others, we are meeting at 7.45am at the Tally Ho in North Finchley. It’s a four mile ride to Palmers Green, mainly but not entirely on main roads, but they should be quiet at that hour.  If it’s easier for you to ride directly to Palmers Green or Enfield, that’s fine.

If you are meeting up with us at the Tally Ho at 7.45, please let me know. My contact details are below.

If it is difficult for you to get to Enfield, there are also events nearby in Brent, Harrow and Camden. See  https://lcc.org.uk/london-cycling-festival-map/ for details.

London Phoenix Easter Classic

The London Phoenix cycling club, who are based in Barnet and affiliated to the London Cycling Campaign, are running their annual event on Easter Monday 21 April 2025. There are options for 113 km and 54 km road rides, as well as a 70k gravel ride. The start and finish of the event is at Fairlop Waters in East London, and the rides head out into the beautiful Essex countryside. More information can be found here: Easter Classic 2025 — London Phoenix Cycling Club

Sundays 18 & 25 May: Ciclovia/Freecycle Event – SAVE THE DATES

This year, to replace the central London Freecycle event, borough groups are being encouraged to organise local events. Barnet plans to link in with an event in Enfield.

Volunteers are needed to help participate and marshal the route in Enfield. The plan is for marshals to meet and do a recce of the route on Sunday 18th May at 2pm. So if you can help, please keep this date free and also the date of the event itself – 25 May. More details to follow.

Rides: Cyclone Cycling

We have been asked to draw attention to this cycling group. They travel out on the Metropolitan Line or the Thameslink Line so it would be of interest to our members on the western side of the borough.

NB THIS GROUP IS NOT PART OF THE LONDON CYCLING CAMPAIGN or BARNET CYCLISTS

Originating in Brent, the group now ranges across North West London – they organise London evening rides – the Chilterns, Watford and beyond. They do 35-45 mile circular daytime road rides at weekends, with an average speed of 14 mph (a good bit faster on the flat).

See attached flyer for more info. To find out more, do drop Matt a line at: CycloneCycling@outlook.com

Women’s Freedom Ride – 6 February

The LCC Women’s Network is identifying parts of the TfL Cycleways network that aren’t safe after dark, especially for women. As part of the launch of the campaign, they’re organising a fun protest ride that will ‘highlight’ these parts of the network on Thursday, 6 February, meeting at 6.15pm at Marble Arch. For more info on the ride please see the event page – https://lcc.org.uk/events/womens-freedom-ride-after-dark/

They are looking for marshals. It is not mandatory to attend the training if you have already received marshal training or if you have lots of experience. But it is mandatory to attend the zoom call (22nd January) and the rehearsal ride on the 30th January. If you have any questions or can’t attend the zoom call on 22nd January or the rehearsal ride on the 30th January, please email mike.mcsherry@lcc.org.uk and the ride leader Mariam will consider what alternative arrangements can be made.

On Saturday 28 September 2024 come and take on the challenge of Swain’s Lane on closed roads – the only hill climb within Greater London and an iconic event on the UK circuit. The climb averages 8% and maxes out at 20% over 900m of tarmac.
