| Do you think that cycling should be for *everyone* in London? Come and join us! This ride – for all who identify as women or non-binary and their allies – is both a celebration and a call to action. Today, less than a third of London’s bike journeys are by women. LCC is holding this ride to call for a London where everyone can cycle, along with our briliant partners Joy Riders and Londra Bisiklet Kulübü. To book a place register here: http://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/lcc-womens-freedom-ride-tickets-489439947057 Marshall’s needed – Marshal Training In preparation for the ride, which currently has circa 500 people attending, we have a couple of training sessions. These are not compulsory but are for people who would like to know more about being a marshal and the skills, risk assessments, communication techniques used by the ride leader to keep the ride fun, social and safe. There is a short classroom session followed by a practical session on the road. The first session is in Enfield on the 11th February, the second is in Clerkenwell on the 26th February. Following the session on the 26th, there is also a pre-ride recce of the route we will use on the day. Although we don’t need every marshall to attend this session, it’s important as many marshals as possible are able to take part so the ride leader can explain how they want the marshals to work on the day, different roles at different junctions etc. Please share this with any interested marshals. Register at the links below. There are only limited places on the two training sessions. 11th Feb, 10:45-13:30, Enfield https://lcc.org.uk/default-events/ride-marshal-enfield/ 26th Feb, 10:00-12:30, Clerkenwell https://lcc.org.uk/default-events/ride-marshal-course-clerkenwell/ 26th Feb pre-ride recce starting at Marble Arch, meet at 12:50 for 1pm start https://lcc.org.uk/default-events/pre-ride-recce/ |

Sunday 29 May: RideLondon Free Cycle -LAST PLEA FOR MARSHALLS
The LCC have had to close sign ups for the RideLondon FreeCycle due to a shortage of marshals (except in boroughs where there are less than 50 sign ups). This is so they can keep the ride size to safe numbers. If you have friends or contacts who want to take part, they can sign up to be marshals. If they have a big sign up of marshals, they can consider opening some of the rides again. If you have friends, colleagues or contacts who are keen to join and they are confident cyclists, encourage them to sign up to volunteer marshal.Â

4th March: Vigil in Holborn
LCC is set to hold a vigil, Friday 4th March, 6pm following another Holborn cycling fatality.
To mark the tragic death of yet another cyclist in the Holborn one way system, the London Cycling Campaign will be holding a vigil outside Holborn Station at 6pm, Friday 4th March. Please gather at 6pm to show respect for the victims who have died at this location. Candles will be lit and a short statement made.
We will be protesting the continued lack of action to deal with road danger at this hazardous junction where eight cyclists have died in collisions since 2008. The most recent, prior to this week’s sad death, was that of Doctor Marta Krawiec last September, just north of Holborn Station. At that location, temporary changes were made within weeks following that fatality. We urge London’s authorities to act swiftly here also – but more, not to wait for yet another predictable fatality or serious collision at such a location before taking action.
At this stage emergency services have confirmed that the latest collision took place in High Holborn near the junction with Procter Street and that it involved an HGV.
The LCC is also looking for marshals to help with this event. If you can help (experience neded) please email Mike.McSherry@lcc.org.uk
RideLondon FreeCycle Sunday 29th May: Feeder Rides
LCC have again been asked to organise feeder rides from every borough in London as we have for the previous 7 years. The feeder rides are a great opportunity for engagement with local riders and members and an important event in our Get London Cycling campaign.
This year, because of arrangements for the Queen’s Jubilee, the route and entry points have changed from the last event in 2019. Also, another change is that almost all of the route will have barriers because it is also being used for professional road racing immediately after the FreeCycle.
The LCC is looking for volunteers to lead a feeder ride from Barnet. Marshalls are also needed. Training sessions are available for both roles. These will commence at the beginning of March and will usually take place on Saturday and Sunday mornings but there is also a Wednesday evening session on offer.
If you want to volunteer please contact alison.ewington@ntlworld.com
