Something a bit different this month:

Please join us at 8pm on Thursday 27^th April, when James Houston will give us a talk on his experience of Ultra Endurance Racing on a Brompton folding bicycle.

James has now ridden five races and has mastered the art of sleeping at bus stops, dining at petrol stations, and cycling over mountaintops at night during thunderstorms. 

James will talk about how he got into long-distance cycling, explain how Ultra Endurance Racing works, and will give us his personal insights into how he prepares his bike, trains for events, and chooses which kit to bring.

He’ll then take us through his experience of competing in last year’s Transcontinental Race – a 4,000+ km unsupported race from Belgium to Bulgaria.

After a round-up of local news and coffee we will be delving into the world of eBikes. At least two members who have eBikes will be on hand to talk about the pros and cons. Are you thinking of taking the plunge? Come along and ask questions – or if you already have one come along and share your experience.

After our usual catch-up and coffee, we will have a very practical look at basic bike maintenance. The things you ought to check on a regular basis to keep your bike safe to ride and running smoothly. We will show a film made by the Forty-Plus Cycle Club, pausing now and then to demonstrate the points made on real bikes.

If you are new to cycling, or even a bit rusty on bike mechanics, then this is the meeting for you. Do you know how to adjust your brakes….if not…this is the meeting for you!

RUMMAGE BOX  at every meeting there is the opportunity to be a real ‘recycler’. Bring along any items (ought to have some link to cycling) to let others make use of them.

Our special topic this month will be  a round up of most of the groups that run rides in Barnet and southern Herts. There are probably more out of there than you realise. Different days, lengths and speeds. If you are new to the group or want to see what’s out there, this is the meeting attend to find out where you can find rides that suit you.
