RIDE REMINDER:Sunday 18th November Walthamstow and the Wetlands

A ride within London showing how different it can be by bike. We will head over to Trent Park for a coffee, then eastwards to the river Lea via Forty Hall and Enfield. Lunch will be at the Navigation Inn on the Lea. Then down the canal side to the Wetlands for a little ride round before heading into the older part of Walthamstow for afternoon tea at ‘God’s Own Junkyard’. www.godsownjunkyard.co.uk. Then we return west on a fairly straight route via Tottenham Cemetery. NB we might have to carry our bikes up and over a footbridge over a railway. We should be back at around 5.30-6pm.  BRING LIGHTS!

RIDE REMINDER Sunday 21st October: Autumn Leaves

Last ride before the clocks ‘fall back’ so make the most of it with a little tootle about the lanes. Enjoy the fresher days and a bit of autumn colour – in both the trees and your cheeks!  Two routes of differing length will be on offer in the morning – but we will lunch together at The Chequers, Potters Bar. There will be a tea stop in the afternoon – possibly at Shenley Orchard as it is Apple Day.

Ride Reminder: Sunday 16th September SUNDAY RIDE: Dallying among the Dahlias!

A relaxed amble to Ayletts Nursery.  Coffee stop in the morning at South Mimms services then on to Ayletts for lunch. We will use quite a few bridleways and paths – nothing too rough. After a light lunch, there will be time for an optional (but free) visit to the Autumn Festival at the nursery:  https://www.aylettnurseries.co.uk/events/autumn-festival-2/   The famous dahlia field is open, with marquee showing cut flower displays, scarecrow competition and butterfly corner.

Ride Reminder: Sunday 19th August: Shaw’s Corner, Ayot St Lawrence

HAVE YOU REMEMBERED THE RIDE THIS SUNDAY:

Visit the home of an old CTC member – George Bernard Shaw. (https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/shaws-corner) a lovely country house set in a delighful garden. Shaw lived here for 44 years and was regularly seen cycling around the area. National Trust – full adult entrance to the whole property is £8. If you are an NT member bring your membership card for free entrance.  We will arrive as the property opens at 12 noon. After visiting the house we will go down the hill (whey hey!) to lunch at the Cross Keys at Gustard Wood. Afternoon tea stop at the John Bunyan, Coleman Green. Then a choice of cycling back to Welwyn Garden City to catch a train, or cycle back to Barnet.
